Technically, it did rain on their parade, but that didn’t stop the drill crews and attendees of the Ohio HDD Rodeo from having a good time.
The judges measured the accuracy of the push and pullback at the three intervals and assessed time penalties accordingly. The more that a crew was off line and grade, the more time that was added to its overall score.
Prizes included equipment and cash, such as a Barbco reamer valued at $5,000, a $4,000 Melfred Borzall Eagle Claw head, a Digital Control Inc. locating system valued at $8,000 and a cash prize of $5,000 — donated by the Ohio HDD Association — that was split between the top three crews.
The HDD Rodeo competition is an exciting showcase of skill, accuracy and speed, pitting drilling crew against drilling crew. Crews will take their best shot at completing a 230-ft bore and are judged on line & grade and the time it took to complete the shot. No pullback will take place. The top winners will receive a plethora of monetary and HDD-related prizes, donated from HDD companies around the industry.
